Fish traps are the slowest and most passive way to fish. Using a fish trap requires Tier 5 [Fishing](/wiki/crafting-guides/fishing).

Fish traps are craftable constructions in the Engineering profession. A trap can be placed in any water deep enough to swim in. It's a good idea to check the fishery quality with your rod and some bait before throwing your trap in, because you cannot pick the trap up once it's placed. Placing it in a better fishery catches fish faster — and because each trap holds a limit of 2 fish of each type, checking it regularly is important.

• You can only have 1 fish trap active per character at a time.
• You can actively or passively fish in the same location as a fish trap.
• Fish traps require bait to catch fish.
• A fish trap must be interacted with once every 72 hours or it will despawn.
• Fish traps are NOT lootable, even when placed in the Loot Zone.
